Ed Reed to New Orleans Saints Unlikely

Sep 22, 2013; Baltimore, MD, USA; Houston Texans safety Ed Reed (20) waves to the crowd after the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Houston Texans 30-9 at M

The New Orleans Saints are a team thrown around when listing potential destianations for safety Ed Reed, who was recently released by the Houston Texans.

It makes sense, with Kenny Vaccaro dealing with an injury and the fact the Saints took a gander at Reed in the offeason. NFL.com put the interest best:

From the article:

Rookie Kenny Vaccaro is dealing with a concussion, so there’s no long-term need at safety. Reed does have roots in Louisiana, however, and the team showed cursory interest in the offseason.

Yet, the Saints have worked out two safeties not known as Reed – former Indianapolis Colts safety Joe Lefeged and former Dallas Cowboys safety Eric Frampton per the National Football Post.

Bottom line — Reed to the Saints would be a nice story, but he was released and passed on by all 31 teams on waivers for a reason.

Reed has nothing left to offer.

The Saints need a safety that can come in and produce right away. Reed was cut because he was not receiving any playing time. Sure, Rob Ryan can work wonders on defense, but Reed may be a lost cause as the Saints and the rest of the NFL have already hinted.

Expect a signing — just not Reed.
