It’s never too early too take a gander at the 2014 NFL draft, even for a Super Bowl contender like the New Orleans Saints.

We know the Saints are a great team offensively, so the popular notion is that New Orleans will use the 2014 NFL draft to beef up what is already an impressive defense under coordinator Rob Ryan.

Fansided’s Josh Sanchez concurs. He has the Saints picking at No. 30 overall, where Clemson defensive end Vic Beasley is the pick. Sanchez writes:

While the team has been improving on the defensive side of the ball since Rob Ryan came to town as the defensive coordinator, they could still use some improvements up front. New Orleans needs either a run-stuffing defensive tackle or pass-rushing defensive end, so they can use their first-round pick to address one of those areas of need.

By adding Beasley as an edge rusher, the Saints would be able to get the talented player at defensive end that they have been searching for.

This would be an excellent move for the Saints. Beasley is a force in the trenches who fits well with Ryan’s amoeba scheme. It’s important to point out that Beasley could elevate his stock to that of a top-10 pick by the time the draft rolls around, but for now this may be as good as it gets for the Saints this late.

What do you think of the selection?
