Saints place Jonathan Vilma on IR, ending season

METAIRIE, La. — Jonathan Vilma’s season is over and his future on the football field is in doubt. The New Orleans Saints placed Vilma to injured reserve, ending his season — and possibly his career — only three days after he had returned for his first game of this season. Still, his teammates expect him ..

Saints’ Darren Sproles cleared to play

Per the Times-Picayune, running back Darren Sproles said he has run the gamut of post-concussion tests administered by the Saints training staff. Subsequently, he has been cleared to play in Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Sproles was knocked out of the game on the first series of Sunday’s loss in New York and didn’t return. There’s no doubting the Saints offense missed the versatility of Sproles, especially in the passing game.
Sproles has carried the ball just 30 times this season, but has 37 receptions out of the backfield for 368 yards and a touchdown.
While Sproles seems to be on the outside looking in at a crowded backfield, he’s one of the best receiving backs in the league. With the Saints taking some heat for how one-dimensional their offense has been with Jimmy Graham, having Sproles available to run free out of the backfield is crucial. Sproles is also the Saints’ kickoff and punt returner, and an electric one at that.
