Several Saints players talked yesterday about how limiting Frank Gore’s rushing production will be key in Sunday’s game against the 49ers. He’s one of the best running backs I think I’ve seen play the game of football.” In Saints injury news, today’s report is again late for some reason, so stay tuned for that.

Last week’s Sunday night game between the Saints and Cowboys was about as one-sided of an affair as you’ll see in the NFL. The Dallas defense couldn’t stop Drew Brees or anybody he happened to hand it off to, and the Saints were on the field for what seemed like an eternity. In contrast, the Cowboys offense managed to go the entire game without converting a third down. I’m sure it was an ugly game to watch live for Cowboys fans, but I would actually encourage them to watch their offense again. Watching the tape, I think there were a few positive signs up front that may provide the smallest of silver linings.

BACK TO WORK after an uneventful bye week, Drew Brees sat down for a nice, quiet lunch with his linemen inside the Saints’ courtyard-style cafeteria. Halfway through the meal, however, TV monitors flashed with highlights from New Orleans’ Week 4 win over Miami. The 38-17 triumph over the then-undefeated Dolphins was an early-season benchmark for the Saints, who had spent the previous year mired in the Bountygate scandal. But as the clips rolled, Brees kept his gaze downward while his linemen began elbowing each other and pointing to the TV screens.

Saints vs. Jets: 6 and “2″ Many Mistakes – Chicks in the Huddle
Perhaps it was the group of 300 lb. men behind me in Metlife Stadium, all of whom seemed like extras from The Sopranos, or maybe the fact that my toes had been frozen solid since halftime, or that I had seen Drew Brees get put on his back more times than Kim Kardashian (Hey, oh!) but for some reason, the Saints loss to the New York Jets on Sunday took a while to settle in. I never thought they would run away with the game but I certainly thought the Saints were the better team and should win. And yet, they fall short, in shocking fashion.

Forecast: Welcome to first crisis of Saints 2013 season | wwltv.com New Orleans
After eight weeks the question isn’t, “Can the Saints offensive line start to play up to the standard we are used to?” It’s, “Can the offensive line improve just enough so their poor play doesn’t cause the 2013 season to implode.”

Jets reveal some Saints’ deficiencies | New Orleans Saints | The Sun Herald
With one exception, criticism falls on the shoulders of quarterback Drew Brees, who picked the most inopportune moments at MetLife Stadium to not be his normal self. It falls on his offensive line which failed to keep the Jets’ interior pass rush at a distance. Instead, center Brian de la Puente and guards Jahari Evans and Ben Grubbs ended too many plays by helping their quarterback back to his feet. That meant some routes down field didn’t have enough time to develop.

Week 9 Rankings – Goal Line Stand – Rotoworld.com
In theory, heading to the Meadowlands is an imposing matchup for Drew Brees. Whereas the Jets are getting shredded by the pass on the road — opposing QBs are 95-of-146 (65 percent) for 1,084 yards, 7.42 yards per attempt, 12 touchdowns and only one interception in four games — they’ve been a different unit at home, holding enemy passers to a 53.0 completion percentage, 6.34 YPA and 3:2 TD:INT ratio. The reality, however, is that they’ve yet to face anyone like Brees, instead shutting down the likes of Josh Freeman, E.J. Manuel, Ben Roethlisberger and a struggling Tom Brady. It’s no secret that the Saints are harder to stop in the Superdome, but a Jets pass defense that allowed five touchdowns to Andy Dalton in Week 8 isn’t going to be slowing Brees down, no matter the venue.
