Tim Kawakami: 49ers poised to make history
With a Super Bowl berth so close that the 49ers can almost touch it, coach Jim Harbaugh didn't drill down to the blurry details Monday. No, instead of sidestepping the moment, Harbaugh went bigger and larger to an epic scale, to match the crescendo of an epic season. So if you were wondering whether the 49ers would embrace or avoid the significance of hosting the NFC championship game against the New York Giants on Sunday, the answer: Yes, most definitely (and wisely) they're embracing it, led by Harbaugh himself.Click to read the original Saints article by FOXSports.com News for Saints

QB Smith finally getting his due
Alex Smith's game-winning touchdown pass Saturday to Vernon Davis worked almost as planned in the 49ers' 36-32 divisional playoff game against the Saints. Yes, almost as planned. Lining up to Davis' left was fellow tight end Justin Peelle, who hoped to draw linebacker Scott Shanle farther away from the play to create a better passing lane for Smith. "The linebacker didn't freeze on me as much as I thought he would," Peelle said Monday. "Vernon makes an unbelievable catch. But Alex drives the ball into a small window."0
49ers not overlooking Giants
Joe Staley and Anthony Davis, the 49ers' starting offensive tackles, huddled at Staley's home Sunday to see if their NFC Championship game opponent would be the New York Giants or the favored Green Bay Packers. It turned out to be the Giants, but not exactly the same Giants team that lost 27-20 to the 49ers at Candlestick Park on Nov. 13. "They're playing at a much higher level," Staley said Monday. "Especially these last four or five games, they've done an outstanding job. And we (have) too, you know?"Click to read the original Saints article by FOXSports.com News for Saints
