Fast Five: New Orleans Saints 2012 Schedule Edition

Fast5_medium

The NFL released the 2012 regular season schedules for all teams last night, and now we know the exact when and where to go along with the who we found out way back in January once the 2011 regular season ended.

CSC Related Coverage – Saints 2012 NFL Schedule: Primetime Is Our Time

——————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Now that you’ve had a night to sleep on it, it’s time to really dig into it, and what better way to do that than with a “Fast Five” Q&A?

If you need some help in digesting the schedule, I offer you the following helpful links: nfl.com’s analysis, Jeff Duncan’s quick take, and Pat Y’s analysis.

Without further ado, on with the questions…

1. What do you predict for the Saints 2012 regular season record?

2. What do you think is the easiest part of the schedule?

3. What do you think is the most difficult part of the schedule?

4. If you could switch one 2012 road game to a home game, which one would you choose and why?

5. Do you like where the bye fell for the Saints? Why or why not? Or do you even care?

* * *

Thanks in advance for playing and have a great day, Who Dats!!

Saints, Brees within $2M/yr on long term contract

According to ESPN’s John Clayton, the Saints and Drew Brees are now within $2 million per year of each other on a long-term contract.

The latest reports had the sides $5 million per year apart, so there’s apparently been tangible progress in April. “You get the feeling they’ll get something done,” Clayton said. “It’s just going to be weeks, a couple of days, could take them a month. But overall, they’ve moved closer, not in the last couple of weeks, but at least a couple of weeks ago.”

NFL Schedule Rumors: Saints Home Game Dates Released

Even though the 2012 NFL schedule isn’t set to be officially released until 7pm EST tonight, now is the time when information slowly begins to get leaked out to the public. It appears that has already started happening.

Larry Holder claims to have the Saints eight home game dates for the 2012 season. They are:

Here are #Saints home dates: Sept 9, Sept 16, Oct 7, Nov 5, Nov 11, Nov 25, Dec 16, Dec 30. All of this via source familiar w: schedule.

If these dates are accurate, that means a month-long stretch of no games in the Dome from early October to early November. I would assume one of those weeks is a bye. It also means no Thanksgiving Day matchup for the Saints.

Random Observations: Decision Time

DALLAS TX - FEBRUARY 04: NFL commissioner Roger Goodell shows how he likes to milk...er...cows. (Photo by Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)

Okay, everybody! I know I’m kinda new here but we have got to come to a concrete decision about something very important. This crucial decision should matter to anyone who has ever considered themselves a Saints fan.

Not really, but it may be a way to have fun with this whole Bountygate fiasco. It’s time to choose an official nickname for Roger Goodell. That is, if you’re not afraid that he’ll suspend you’re citizenship and have you deported.

I don’t think the usual derogatory nicknames that any middle school student could come up with would do this justice. I’ve seen “Satch” Kelly refer to him as Herr Goodell which is a good start since RG is acting like a power hungry dictator. I kind of like the reference to Hitler, but since I thought this whole appeals process was a joke I actually see him more like Colonol Klink, a foolish Nazi guard trying to keep the lid on a three ring circus he calls a POW camp (or league).

Maybe he’s more like the “Soup Nazi” from Seinfeld to some of you. Maybe we call him “Rule Nazi” but it doesn’t roll off the tongue very smoothly. Plus, I’d hate to copycat a nickname like that.

On the other hand, maybe he’s more like a crime boss? You ever seen Goodfellas or almost any movie involving the mafia? The Don, or head of the family, is always making an example out of his enemies and underlings alike. According to the media, Goodell had to make an example out of the Saints to show his seriousness which is ridiculous. If he wanted to show his seriousness he could have done this the first time they busted the Saints. If they had enough evidence to feel the need to tell us to stop…why not just stop it? Why let it fester for three seasons if you’re serious?

Either way I think Mr. Goodell is deserving of a new nefarious title because Commissioner does not properly describe his job as judge, jury, and executioner. I personally refer to him as Captain Gonad since his man-junk grows to unbelievable size when distributing his crippling kind of justice. These suspensions are the equivalent of being sentenced to a year in prison with John Holmes as your cellmate because you know somebody’s getting screwed. So please help me with some good ideas for a universally acceptable nickname for this man!

2012 NFL Mock Draft: The NY Jets Select…

Photo

With the sixteenth pick of the 2012 CSC Community Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles (chosen by GRIZZ) select…

Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama

For the Jets, I’ve decided to select linebacker Courtney Upshaw. He fits the Jets’ system with his excellent pass-rushing skills. Here are some numbers for you “stat fiends.”

6’2″ 272 lbs

40-yard dash: 4.81 (Pro Day)

Bench press: 22 Reps

Year GP–GS Tackles Sacks Pass Defense Fumbles Blocked
Solo Ast Total Loss–Yards No–Yards Int–Yards BU PD QBH No–Yards FF Kick
2008 13–0 12 10 22 3–3 0–0 0–0 2 2 1 0–0 0 0
2009 14–1 7 8 15 1–1 1–1 0–0 0 0 4 2–45 0 0
2010 13–13 32 20 52 14.5–69 7–40 0–0 2 2 2 1–0 4 0
2011 13–13 36 15 51 17–84 8.5–56 1–45 1 1 11 0–0 2 0
Total 87 53 140 35.5–157 16.5–97 1–45 5 5 18 3–45 6 0

As you can see, he’s stayed healthy through his college career and ended up with 15.5 sacks during his last two years on a stellar Crimson Tide defense. The only knock on Upshaw (according to analysts) are his cover skills, which he didn’t get too much of a chance to display in college, so that is still up in the air.

He also ran a disappointing 40-yard dash time with a 4.81…but his football speed seems to be alright. I think that Upshaw’s NFL comparisons are Pittsburgh’s LaMarr Woodley (at best) or KC’s Justin Houston (at worst). That’s my pick for the Jet’s and I’m sticking with it!

Now…let’s go eat a g**d*** snack!
