The year of the new tight end;NFL PLAYOFFS;Bigger, faster targets lead the way to offensive

All the talk coming into this season was about the lockout. But as we enter the second season - the NFL playoffs, which start with two games today - people should be screaming about the lockup of defensive players. With helmet-to-helmet penalties being called without real guidelines and quarterbacks protected like never before, defensive players don't have much of a chance. Especially when you start putting 6-foot-6, 265-pound freaks like Rob Gronkowski in the middle of the field. The Patriots tight end broke the NFL records for receptions 90, receiving yards 1,327 and touchdowns 17 at his position, and he needed a last-minute garbage-time play to do it. The Saints' 6-6, 260-pound Jimmy Graham had finished with 1,310 yards and 11 touchdowns earlier Sunday to break Kellen Winslow's 1980 record of 1,290 yards.

SAINTS & WINNERS N.O. stopping Brees-Payton Super combo

STEVE SERBY'S ROAD TO INDIANAPOLIS WILD-CARD ROUND AFC BENGALS 24, TEXANS 20: In a battle of elite defensive coordinators and rookie quarterbacks, give the edge to Mike Zimmer vs. T.J. Yates over Wade Phillips vs. Andy Dalton. The Red Rifle has better chemistry with fellow rookie A.J. Green than Yates does with injury-plagued Andre Johnson, critical because Zimmer will load up to stop Arian Foster and dare the rook to beat him. SAINTS 41, LIONS 28: Drew Brees and Sean Payton are on another mission, and the visitors simply do not have the big-game maturity, experience, rushing attack or answer for Darren Sproles, no matter how many times Matthew Stafford plays pitch-and-catch with Calvin Johnson.
