Outside the Box? Saints tell cornerback prospect he’d play safety for them – USA Today Saints News

The Saints are one of a handful of NFL teams who utilize three safeties on a regular basis. Known as the big nickel, New Orleans trots it out on a regular basis. That’s why even before free agency opened up, they swooped in to ink Kurt Coleman to a deal to replace Kenny Vaccaro.

Whether or not they look to the draft to continue to build depth at the position behind Marcus Williams, Coleman and Vonn Bell is yet to be determined. But the consideration is there, as it’s been revealed they told Day 3 cornerback prospect Linden Stephens their vision for him is as a free safety.
