Saints: Drew Brees has got to be tired of the
disrespect – (Yardbarker)

Drew Brees has got to be one of the most undervalued legends in the history of the NFL. And he’s got to be getting tired of the disrespect.

Who Dat Dish recently talked about the laughable PFF 50 ranking where Matt Ryan came in ahead of Drew Brees. Came in ahead of him despite clear, undeniable superiority in numbers. Now the new numbers are in for Madden NFL 19.

Drew Brees, with a score of 90, isn’t even in the top 35. The highest rated quarterback is Aaron Rodgers with a score of 99. Okay. Well, Saints fans know this is a bunch of, um, you know, falseness.

Let’s take a look at the two QBs in a side by side comparison. Since Aaron Rodgers wasn’t a starter until 2008, we’ll start there. Since 2008, Rodgers has thrown for 312 TDs. Brees has thrown 354.

Brees has thrown for 49,253 yards. Rodgers, 38,173. Brees has thrown more interceptions. But he’s also averaged a career 282.9 yards per game compared to Rodgers’ 258.4. Rodgers has a career completion percentage of 65.1 compared to Brees’ 66.9 which includes last year’s 72.0. That, may friends, is the all-time NFL record.

Drew Brees has missed a total of two games since 2008. Aaron Rodgers has missed 18.

So what is it about Aaron Rodgers that causes so many pundits to place him above Drew Brees in ratings? Nothing. Hype. Lack of respect for Drew. Why? I would guess because of the history of Green Bay. The team’s place in NFL history? Really, who knows?

The legacy

Both quarterbacks have won exactly one Super Bowl apiece. They’ve both had long NFL careers but Brees is the clear leader in almost every statistical category. With his injury history, I’d guess Aaron Rodgers won’t be playing when he’s 40. Brees will be.

There’s little chance Rodgers will ever sniff the career numbers Brees has put up. But he’s consistently ranked ahead of Drew. It’s always Rodgers and Brady. And don’t even get me started on comparing Brees and Brady.

Yes, Brady has the rings. He also has almost always had better teams around him than Brees has had. Brees is still superior to Brady statistically. But the lack of respect is still there.

The fact is, Brees is one of the best quarterbacks to ever play professional football. He’ll be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame the second he announces his retirement. It’s about time the pundits and the analysts actually started giving him his proper due.
