Saints: Drew Brees vs Russell Wilson for MVP, no,
really – (Yardbarker)
Recent Vegas odds are saying that Russell Wilson has a better chance of being named NFL MVP than Drew Brees. And they’re serious.
This offseason, we’ve seen a few examples of sports people saying some quarterback or another is better than Drew Brees. Pro Football Focus said Matt Ryan was as ridiculous as that may seem. Then, more recently, there’s been talk that Aaron Rodgers is better than Brees despite a clear numerical superiority. What’s next? Russell Wilson?
Well, yeah. From the what the @#$! are they #%^#$ thinking to #@%^ Russell @#$%^ Wilson to Drew Brees corner of some dimly lit room in Las Vegas, they are saying that.
To be honest, this is just some random tweet I ran across on Bleacher Report’s Saints feed. The tweet is some line from some sort of betting website giving odds for, apparently, just quarterbacks being named MVP. I’m not even sure MVP of what. Super Bowl? Something like the Associated Press award? Who knows? I guess it’s the AP award.
And it doesn’t really matter. Payton Manning was MVP the year Drew Brees was denying him a Super Bowl ring. It’s just a title to add at the end of your name. Payton Manning, MVP.
I’m not even going to rehash the Brady, Rodgers thing. But Russell Wilson? Really? On what planet are you even thinking he’d get there over Brees? The first issue here is that Seattle probably won’t even win their division.
They finished a distant second last year and the 49ers actually have a chance to put them down to third place in 2018. None of those teams is topping the Rams. And Russell Wilson is playing behind an offensive line that got him sacked 43 times in 2017. Yea, I don’t think so.
Not saying Wilson isn’t a good quarterback. But come on. Forget how talented he is, look at his circumstances. These guys seem to think Seattle, who lost their defense basically, has a shot to come in first in the NFC West. A good one at that.
And they think the Seahawks have a better chance than the Saints of winning their division. Maybe this isn’t a real head to head comparison of the two quarterbacks. Well, I would hope not. And this surely can’t be the common wisdom out of Vegas as to how the 2018 NFL Season will play out.
I’ll bet anybody willing that the Saints will have a better record than the Seahawks in 2018. I’ll bet Drew Brees will have a better year than Russell Wilson. And I’ll bet this will be another one of those tweets that doesn’t age well. I’ll remind you in December with a retweet.
P.S.: Are they really thinking Green Bay is going to the Super Bowl? Lolz.
