Saints facing offensive rookie threats in NFC South in
2018 – (Yardbarker)
Every year there are new rookies entering the NFC South. In 2018, the division is loaded, like never before, with potential offensive superstars.
In the NFC South, three teams, New Orleans, Atlanta and Carolina, were in a dead heat for the division championship until the last weeks of the season in 2017. All three teams were potent in their own ways. But all three had their weaknesses. Even Tampa Bay was maybe a few players away from turning it around.
The top three teams all had some deficiencies at wide receiver. The Bucs needed help in multiple areas, but there offense lacked a solid running game. The Saints had an obvious need at pass rush which they addressed by taking Marcus Davenport in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. But they also added Central Florida wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith in the third round.
The Falcons and the Panthers both went after wide receivers in the first round. In the Bucs’ second round they hope to have found their running back of the future.
All of this sets up the 2018 Season to be one heck of a shooting match in the NFC South. Known already as a passing division with Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton and Jameis Winston, this year will be amped.
In this piece we’ll take a look at the Saints’ division rivals and see what they did in the 2018 NFL Draft to try to cause grief for opposing defenses.
