After the game one defensive debacle the against the Buccaneers, the Saints face an improved Browns team this Sunday. Last week’s game counts for more than one loss, in my opinion, because not only was it at home it was also a divisional opponent. The communication on the defense seemed non existent, and the amount of explosive plays was troubling. The Saints offense was great as usual but the between the tackles running which in turn eats the clock was not there. Newly acquired Mike Gillislee coughed up a fumble which may put him squarely in the Coach Payton doghouse.

Regardless the big easy boys cannot afford to lose their first two home games. Ryan Fitzpatrick looked like a combination of Joe Montana and Steve Young last Sunday and Tyrod Taylor led the Buffalo Bills to the playoffs last year. The Browns have talented people like Myles Garrett, Jarvis Landry, and Josh Gordon. Rookie Denzel Ward, the fourth overall pick last draft, had two interceptions and did an excellent job against Antonio Brown. New Orleans is the better team at home, PERIOD, they just have to play together and with urgency.

One of the main problems last Sunday was a lack of pass rush which was addressed in this year’s draft but must improve. I anticipate Cam Jordan to be very disruptive and maybe tally a sack and other various forms of mayhem. The linebacker situation is confusing to me as an outsider with Craig Robertson getting zero snaps on the defense. Alvin Kamara had a total of 52 offensive snaps the highest in his young career, but even that was not enough to keep up with Tampa Bay. “Prove them right” is now to me “Just win baby” the Saints can’t afford to lose a second consecutive game against an inferior opponent. The boys in the desert have instilled the Saints as 9 point favorites and that sounds about right. My call? The Saints get back on track and win 33 – 23.
