FINAL STATSHARVEY, La. – A strong all-around effort by Lusher resulted in convincing win Thursday night over Thomas Jefferson, 47-7, at Hoss Memtsas Stadium.The Lions cruised to pick up their first win of the season but the Jaguars scored the first points of the game on a four-yard touchdown run by senior running back Seth Jackson.Jackson finished with 42 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. His score represented the last points by Thomas Jefferson.On the very next drive, the Lions tied the game on the first of a career-high four touchdown runs by junior running back Miles Stewart. After forcing a three and out, Lusher took the lead for good before the end of the first quarter with a two-yard touchdown run by Miles Stewart.Lusher recovered a fumble on a punt before sophomore quarterback Arnold Little connected with his favorite target, senior receiver Chad Britton, on a 45 yard touchdown pass. Britton ended up with six catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.The Lions took advantage of a special teams miscue by the Jaguars on the second hallf kickoff to recover a loose ball at the Jefferson 21. Stewart’s third touchdown came on the next play. His nine-yard touchdown run capped his huge night of 121 yards and the quartet of touchdowns on just 13 carries.Junior receiver Seth Hunter caught a ball in traffic and took it in for a 41-yard touchdown to add to the impress passing totals of Little, who finished 12-for-18 for 210 yards and two touchdowns.In a tribute to junior receiver Evans Simons who suffered a season ending injury in last week’s game, senior linebacker Marcus Lewis wore Simons’ No. 11 jersey in the game. Lewis tallied six tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery to fuel a dominant Lusher defensive effort.A game full of strange plays that went Lusher’s way saved the strangest for the beginning of the fourth quarter. On a 4th and 1 from the Lusher 43-yard line, the ball was snapped over Lusher senior punter Will Sternbergh’s head and landed at the Lusher 15. Sternbergh scrambled to pick up the ball and broke loose on the broken play before being stopped at the Thomas Jefferson 37-yard line. Junior running back Quinten Crump finished off the drive with a obe-yard touchdown run.Seven of the eight Lusher scores in the game came on first down plays.
