Dez Bryant took to Twitter on Wednesday to issue his first public reaction to coming to terms on a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.
The wide receiver not surprisingly opted to rely upon his patented “Throw Up the X” to celebrate the long-awaited end to his NFL purgatory
while reacting to a tweet from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
Bryant is expected to officially sign a one-year deal with the Saints on Thursday after the 30-year-old veteran worked out for the team on Tuesday and initiated negotiations on a contract. Bryant continued to use Twitter on Wednesday to retweet posts from media outlets and respond to those giving him a shout out.
Bryant is expected to fill a void in a compromised Saints wide receiving corps. While Bryant will not be the top dog on the Saints with Michael Thomas, Cameron Meredith and Tre’Quan Smith leading the way, his presence will help alleviate the setback caused by losing wideout Ted Ginn Jr. to injury.
It’s unclear what Bryant has left in the tank after some subpar seasons with the Cowboys, but the case can be made the Saints are getting the best possible version of the wide receiver: A motivated one. And with Drew Brees slinging the ball, the potential for Bryant to resurrect his NFL career is at the very least plausible.
